Yes, you are right. The Tamil Diasporas community knows well that large numbers of Tamils (so called intellectuals) were killed by LTTE but, why do we still support LTTE? The so called intellectual’s assassinated by LTTE were banking on the suffering of the Tamils by embracing Sinhalese policies. All the Tamils that were killed by the LTTE were not innocent; they have known and unknowingly contributed to the Sinhalese policies. Those who did it unknowingly definitely got warnings however; they refused to look into the matter and disregarded the Tamil cause. LTTE killing more Tamils then the Sri Lankan Armed Forces and Sinhalese thugs is a total bullshit.

Funding the tragedy

There is no doubt that a large portion of the Tamils living outside Sri Lanka - in one way or the other - knowingly funds the Tamil Tigers. Some do this willingly as they share the ideology that Tamils in Sri Lanka should have the ability to self-govern; others are forced into making contributions by use of force and intimidation. But neither of these groups are happy that the LTTE have killed more Tamil civilians and brought upon much hardships to the Tamil community than anyone else in the history.

Political situation and aspirations of the populace of Sri Lanka

The present regime in Sri Lanka has partially understood that the majority race, the Sinhala people in general, give priority to maintain the unitary status of the country. Hence, the President being a person born and bred from Ruhuna which had produced so many patriots appear to have realised this fact and is making a determined and a concerted effort to free the country from fascist terrorists, the main motto of the LTTE is to divide this country and create a separate state for the largest minority race, the Tamils.

Time to war

I don't know which is worse: the idea of LTTE "air force" being able to attack Colombo or admitting that the JVP may have been right all along. The foundation of my opposition to the JVP ideology - what in hindsight may perhaps be a little too naive - was that any opportunity for peace - however small - must be exploited. But JVP argued all along that the LTTE would only use a ceasation of hostilities as a temporary interlude to re-stock their arsenal. Sure enough re-stock they did; this time with light air crafts able to attack - for the first time in history of the conflict - a military base of Sri Lankan forces.

The thing with the human rights situation in Sri Lanka ...

One of the key elements to winning the war against the bad guys is to recognize and accept when we do things that makes us the bad guys. Historically, most parties to a conflict who have struggled to maintain a descent level of dignity, compassion and value have come through as victors. In Sri Lanka, while we are clearly fighting the bad guys - those who deliberately killed civilians standing at bus stops, assassinated intellectuals and opponents and recruited children to name a few - successive Sri Lankan governments have been tempted to cross the line and do things that they do. As of recent, those things - abductions, disappearances and insensitivity to the effects on civilians during battle - have increased substantially suggesting a narrowing difference between those who are "bad" and those who are supposed to be fighting to uphold the rights and virtues of humanity.
